Loosely structured as a sketch show but with an innovative stream-of-consciousness approach, it pushed the boundaries of what was then considered acceptable, both in terms of style and content.

Monty Python's Flying Circus is arguably the most influential comedy series ever broadcast. The Pythons created a style of comedy so distinctive and impossible to categorise that it earned its own adjective - Pythonesque. Quite simply, they invented a new genre of comedy. Despite this, Jones once commented that the fact that they had created a new word in the dictionary shows how miserably they had failed.
