Hayley Westenra Biography
Hayley Westenra was born on April 10, 1987, in Christchurch, New Zealand. She is the daughter of Jill and Gerald Westenra and has two siblings, Isaac and Sophie. She comes from a musically inclined family - her grandmother Shirley Ireland was a singer and her grandfather was a pianist who played the piano accordion.
Hayley began her musical career at the early age of six when she starred in her school's Christmas play called "The Littlest Star" and impressed audiences with her singing part. After taking music lessons, she performed in more than 40 stage productions by the time she was 11. She made her professional recording studio debut at age 13 with Walking in the Air, an independently produced demo made for family and friends. At the age of 14 she made a self-titled collection, Hayley Westenra (2001), that took her country by storm.
Although her albums were quite successful in New Zealand, she was unknown worldwide until she landed a contract with Decca Records and recorded Pure, a CD of classical, light pop and traditional Maori songs. She achieved international stardom at age sixteen and her international debut album Pure became No. 1 classical hit in such countries as the UK, Australia and Hong Kong. Poised, angelic and characterised by its breath-taking natural beauty, Hayley's voice won the hearts of millions.
Treasure, Westenra's new international album, was launched in the UK on February 26, 2007, and in the US on March 13 (under the name Celtic Treasure).
Hayley's amazing voice has ensured her a place within the pantheon of great singers, and her drive and determination is virtually impossible to ignore. With several hit albums and hundreds of concert appearances behind her, Hayley has established herself as a natural successor to such talented soloists as Andrea Bocelli and Celine Dion.
Hayley Westenra is also the youngest UNICEF Ambassador to date and has been lauded for her charitable contributions to the world. She is undoubtedly an ideal role model for the millions of little girls that look up to her.

Hayley is really a great singer, perhaps one of the greatests of today. On the DVD Live at Slane Castle, by Celtic Woman; she gives a breathtaking peformance of Handels aria Lascia Ch'io Pianga from Renaldo. I'm not easy impressed, but by this rendition, I was really floored. Hayley, a wish from the bottom of my heart, please make soon another DVD.

Hayley - I somehow stumbled on your version of "Both Sides Now". It was absolutely beautiful. I also have watched several of your videos, and just watched, "Ave Maria", and "Heaven". Made me start thinking, Do you have any spiritual beliefs? When Christ walked this earth, He said that He is the only way to heaven. "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me." He also said that those who come to know Him will be given brand new life, right here on earth - right now: "I have come that they might have life, and have it more abundantly. God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life." He promises to save us from our sin and promise us heaven: "If you confess with your mouth, 'Jesus is Lord' and believe in your heart God raised Him from the dead you will be saved.'

PS: I've been to Ghana numerous times they are one of the world's largest producers of Gold, there is no reason for any, ANY, poverty in Ghana...and now they have oil off shore as well and diamonds....there is not one reason for any child to be selling apples or toilet paper or fly swatters on the street corners, or for invalids to be begging...The UN knows this...and they continue to advance the illusion that they care...I lost count how many so called Diplomats are nothing more than facilitators of corporate deals and tribal greed.....boy they really like celebrities to help them....don't let them take advantage of your good name and pure heart...sadly same goes for most of Africa...one day they will all be held personally accountable as we all will...as Rich intimates above...

The record store employee who first suggested Hayley's CD "Pure" is owed a debt of gratitude. From the first moment I was captivated by the beauty of her voice and have made a point of purchasing all of her albums. Hayley's time as a member of Celtic Woman was particularly enjoyed. Having Hayley and Chloe Agnew release a CD together would be a blending of the voices of two incredibly talented ladies.

Your style/voice reminds me a bit of Enya and Sarah Mclachlan, but you mo' better. When I listened to you do Amazing Grace even though I'm a dude, a tear (maybe two our three or more) came to me eyes.
